When I was a child, I rode a first class train in Germany when TPTB made us late and unable to catch our connection. It was amazing, even with the snotty person in the compartment with us. I'd like to experience it as an adult.
The kids have been wanting to take the train to Chicago or Denver, and I agree. It would be a neat experience, just not something I would want to do frequently.
