Sharon Halliday Hattingh's Bucket List

Before I die I want to...
Visit Scotland And Trace Our Family Roots

I can trace my family back to the year 1045 and am very proud to have roots in ancient Scotland with links to William Wallace. Since childhood I had a great passion for the Highlands and the lonely sound of the bagpipes always brings me to tears. I remember the first time I visited the UK....even down in London, getting off the plane at Heathrow and breathing the cold, clammy air for the first time....it was like coming home. This is not just a dream, this is something I NEED TO DO... I believe that going to Scotland, walking the moors and the green, rolling hills and valleys, will fulfill my soul in a way nothing else ever will. My family tartan colours are green and blue, our motto 'Quarta saluti', means 'Fourth to heal' and the first recording in history of the name was in 1188 of a certain Suein Halidai in the 'Pipe Rolls of Nottinghamshire' during the reign of King Henry the II. The surname means, Holy Day. ....you can now understand a little bit more about my (perhaps insane) obsession with the little country in the North. Sharon Halliday Hattingh
